Please mark your dinghy racing calendars and save the date for the 5th Annual Hampton Roads Sunfish Challenge & Dinghy Distance Race.

Race HQ at Willoughby Harbor Marina, located at 1525 Bayville St. Norfolk va.  The organizing authority for the race is the Mill Creek Boat Club, whose address is P.O. Box 7381 Norfolk, Va. 23509.

This race, held on Saturday, September 21, 2013, closes out the local dinghy-racing season.  It is a long distance sprint across Hampton Roads, with a turn at Middle Ground Lighthouse, returning to Willoughby Bay. The total distance is just over 11 miles in length.

There will be 4 Sunfish classes, along with a Force 5, Laser, HOD, Raider, and an Open Class, utilizing the Portsmouth Rating System for scoring.  If we get 4 or more boats of the same type, we will have a separate class for them. Breakfast and lunch will be provided, along with a copiously stuffed, “swag bag” of nautical goodies. We have added a huge nautical raffle of various sailing items to include a new Sunfish Sails, hiking straps, and sailing apparel.

We have made arrangements with the Fort Monroe campsite (4 miles from race HQ), for discounted tent and RV camping facilities.

So check the official racing website at www.hrsunfishrace.com for more information and updates.

You can register online, so register early.

See you on the water!
