1. Rules:

1.1 This regatta will be governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS 2017 – 2020); the Equipment Rules of Sailing; the Class Rules; Notice of Race; and, the Sailing Instructions for the regatta.

1.2 Appendix P may apply.

2. Eligibility:

2.1 Classes: Laser; Laser Radial; Laser Masters; 420; Force 5

2.2 RS Feva; 29er, Byte, Laser 2 and Vibe may be added upon confirmation (paid pre-registration) of 5 or more boats

2.3 Competitors must be members of a club that complies with RRS–75.

3. Registration & Fees:

3.1 Competitors are encouraged to pre-register by email for this regatta. ALL competitors, coaches and support boats must check-in at registration on-site. Registration is open during the following hours:

Thursday, July 6th, 2017             7:00 pm to 9:00 pm

Friday, July 7th, 2017                  8:00 am to 10:00 am and 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm

Saturday, July 8th, 2017              7:30 am to 8:30 am

3.2 Payment options
Pre-registration – Visa only (no MasterCard), Cheque
On-site Registration – Visa, MasterCard, Cheque, Cash
Please note: E-transfers cannot be accepted for payment

3.3 Coaches and other support personnel (including parents of competitors), must register with the organizing authority and display a flag provided for each support boat.

4. Racing Schedule:

4.1 A maximum of 7 races are scheduled. 1 or more completed races constitutes a series.

4.2 Skippers Meeting to take place at 8:30 on Saturday, July 8th.

4.3 1st race warning - 10:00 am, Saturday July 8th and Sunday July 9th.

5. Inspection & Measurement:

5.1 Boats may be inspected at any time during the regatta for class or safety equipment.

6. Safety:

6.1 Life jackets must be worn at all times while afloat. This changes the preamble to Part 4 and RRS-40.

6.2 Boats must have a five meter long, 6 mm diameter towline attached to the mast at all times. This towline cannot be the mainsheet.

7. Sailing Instructions:

7.1 Sailing Instructions will be provided at registration.

8. Scoring:

8.1 Low point scoring system (RRS Appendix A) as amended in SI 18.

8.2 Laser Masters will be scored as a part of the Laser fleet and presented separate Masters awards.

9.1 SYC Sailfest Sarnia 2017 Awards

10. Disclaimer of Liability:

10.1 Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during or after the regatta.

11. Insurance:

11.1 Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third-party liability insurance with a minimum coverage of $1,000,000 per event.


On-site camping for tents only (no camper trailers) will be available at SYC commencing Thursday evening. Campers must register for camping. Campers under 18 must have an adult supervisor on site.

Training Festival:
Friday, July 8th - briefing at 10:00 AM. Ontario Sailing and guest coaches will provide on water and dry land training sessions for participants.

Special Note:


The Sail Canada Discipline Guidelines and Code of Conduct will be in force for all participants in this regatta. SAILFEST SARNIA has a zero tolerance policy with regards to drugs and alcohol (for underage sailors) on club property. Violators may be disqualified from further competition and regatta results removed from the scoring records.
