1. Rules

This regatta is governed by:

1.1 The rules as defined in the 2013 ISAF Racing Rules of Sailing

1.2 The Sunfish Class Rules

1.3 The Organizing Authority is: Mill Creek Boat Club

 

2. Eligibility and Entry

2.1 All Sunfish, Force 5, Laser, Buccaneer, Mutineer, Melonseeds, and any other dinghy sailboat competitors may enter by completing the online registration, located at http://www.hrsunfishrace.com.

2.2 All entrants must fill out an Online Entry Form.  Registration fee is $35.00 for skippers and $10 for crew. Regular registration ends Friday Sept. 19 at 9pm. Boats may register on Saturday morning but will incur a $5 late fee.

2.3 Registration accepted with a late fee ($5.00) on the morning of the regatta, September 24, 2011 between 0800 and 0830 at the Willoughby Harbor Marina, located at 1525 Bayville rd. in Norfolk Va.

2.4 Participants are reminded that per OUR class rules, 2 people may sail a boat together in the regatta, so fathers, bring your son or daughter out to race.

3. Risk

3.1 It is the competitor’s decision to enter the regatta and to start or continue to race. The competitors are ultimately responsible for the risks. The Organizing Authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta. The competitors will accept full responsibility for all his/her actions during any activity related to the event. This includes on-shore activities before, during and after the regatta.

4. SCHEDULE

0800-0930 Registration & Light Breakfast at Willoughby Harbor Marina Parking Lot.

0945 Skipper’s Meeting

1030 First Warning Signal, race start.

1600 Time Limit for all boats to clear the racecourse

1600 Food, drinks, raffle, and awards at the Willoughby Harbor Marina.

5. Sailing Instructions

5.1 Sailing Instructions (SI) will be available online and at registration. An opportunity exists to discuss any questions participants have about the SI at the skipper’s meeting.

6. Course

6.1 These will be defined in the Sailing Instructions. It is likely they will be: A start line just outside of the Willoughby Harbor Marina seawall, round Middle Ground Lighthouse (in any direction), return to Willoughby Start/Finish line. (approx. 11 miles)

A map of the course is located athttp://www.hrsunfishrace.com, and will be included in the SI.

6.2 The Start/Finish line will be between the Orange Flag on the RC boat and an inflatable drop mark.

7. Scoring

7.1 One-design scoring will be used for all Sunfish, and any other established fleets, with all other boats, scoring will be per US Sailings Portsmouth Yard Stick 2013.

7.2 If 4 or more boats of the same type race, the fleet maybe further subdivided.

8. Safety

8.1 Communications: All boats will be required to, at all times, carry a  whistle to contact the Safety Boats. Safety Boats will monitor Ch. 72.

8.1a. Whistles will be available for purchase at registration, but we encourage you to please bring your own.

8.2 A US Coast Guard or International equivalent personal flotation device must be worn at all times when racing.

9. Weather Notice

9.1 In the event of forecast severe weather, a notice will be placed on the www.hrsunfishrace.com website the morning of the race, at the latest. We will attempt to start the race unless the actual or forecast wind is over 25 knots sustained.

10. Protests

10.1 Due in writing at the Rebel Marine Office within one hour after the last boat finishes. Protests will be heard as soon as possible after submittal to the Race Officials.

11. DISCLAMER OF LIABILITY:

11.1 Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See RRS 4,

Decision to Race. The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material

damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with, prior to, during,

or after the regatta. This is really important so we listed it twice. 

12.  Changes will be announced on the race website,http://www.hrsunfishrace.com

13. Party:

13.1 We invite all sailors and guests to participate in the Friday night Meet & Greet, held at Sunset Grille in Willoughby Harbor Marina, starting at 7pm.  Free appetizers and heavy Hors d’oeuvres will be served.

13.2 The Saturday night post race party will include free beer for adults over 21, with non-alcoholic beverages available.  Free dinner and appetizers will be available, as well as a huge nautical raffle and prizes. Dinner and drinks are free to all registered skippers and crew. Other guests can buy a ticket for $10 at the morning registration.
