3rd Annual Connecticut River Dinghy Distance Race


LOCATION: The Connecticut River from Eagle Landing State Park in Haddam, CT (south of the Goodspeed Bridge) to the Baldwin Bridge State Boat Launch in Old Saybrook, CT.

DATE: Saturday May 11, 2013.

LAUNCHING: Boats will be launched at the public boat ramp at Eagle Landing in Haddam or for larger vessels, SalmonRiver Boat Launch in East Haddam. They will be taken out at the State Boat Launch in Old Saybrook, CT.

TRANSPORTAION, SKIPPERS MEETING & RACING: Boats should be launched at Eagle Landing and all vehicles, trailers, etc. brought to the State Boat Launch in Old Saybrook by 9:30am. Transportation back to Eagle Landing in Haddam for all competitors and crew will be provided. Skippers meeting will take place at launching area at Eagle Landing at 10:30am. Sailing instructions with scratch sheet and course chart will be available at the Skipper’s meeting.

Racing commences at 11:00 am.

CLASSES: Laser, JY15, Sunfish, and any mono/multihulls that have an accurate Portsmouth Yardstick rating. If morethan 5 One Design boats register before May 5, we can add onedesign classes.

COURSE: The course will be from a start off the boat launch at Eagle Landing to the finish off of the Baldwin Bridge in Old Saybrook. The distance is approximately 10.5 nm.

ELIGIBILITY: Opened to all skippers (not necessarily the helmsperson) written permission from parents or guardians required for skippers under eighteen (18) years of age must be received before the start of racing.

EQUIPMENT & CLASS RULES: The Racing Rules of Sailing 20132016 shall apply. All sailors shall wear zipped or tied U.S. Coast Guard approved Personal Floatation Devices (PFD’s) at all times while on the water. Singlehanded sailors shall wear zipped full torso wet or dry suits.

ENTRY FEES: Only a properly completed entry form and full entry fee will be considered an entry.

The entry fee is $15 per boat.

PARKING: Parking is available at both ends of the race at both public lots.

AWARDS/PARTY: At the end of the day, there will be a gathering at The Back Porch in Old Saybrook where prizes will be awarded to members of each fleet. In addition, a prize for fastest overall performance will be awarded. Food and beverage will be the responsibility of each person attending through the restaurant and bar. If we can arrange for food through the restaurant, we will notify everyone for optional ticket purchase.
