Midwest Regional Championship - Sarnia Sailfest

Hey all.  Registration for Sarnia Sailfest 2019 is now open on Yacht Scoring Website.  This will mark the third year the Force 5 Class has participated in the event. Fleet 106 (Port Huron) is the sponsoring fleet and the Class has approved it as the Force 5 Midwest Regional.

Event is July 5th through the 7th, 2019, hosted by Sarnia Yacht Club in Sarnia, Ontario Canada.  The club is located at the base of Lake Huron, just over the Bluewater Bridge from Port Huron, Michigan. There is a training clinic on Friday with racing on Saturday and Sunday.  Cost of the event is $100 CAD (currently like $75 USD).  All meals and regatta shirt included.  Excellent camping and shower facilities are available on site for no additional cost.  There are plenty of hotels and restaurants nearby as well.

Two final suggestions for those attending:  1.) stock up on alcoholic beverages before entering Canada.  Each person can import either one case of beer or one bottle of booze without paying duty (something like that anyway).  You will not enjoy paying Canadian prices for alcohol at retail centers,  2.)  Exchange some funds either at the US Duty Free Store (located on Pine Grove Ave in Port Huron) or at the Canadian Currency Exchange (located immediately after you get through the Canadian Customs).  Canadian establishments gladly accept US funds but, are not likely to offer the best exchange rate.

Re: Midwest Regional Championship - Sarnia Sailfest

A little promoting here....  We have a pretty good start on registration with 4 signed up.  Not a bad.  Load up the boats and come enjoy a nice weekend of sailing on Lake Huron, comradery and probably buffoonery. Bring the family along as there is plenty to see and do in the area.  Don't let the border crossing scare you away.  The customs officers on the Canadian side are nicer than they are on the US side smile.

Hope you will choose to participate.
