2018 Hospice Lake Hartwell South Carolina

Registration is cranked up.

Come on down and enjoy the fun. You are welcome to come for the week starting 10/8/18. If you show up 10/7, you can even do our Centerboard race at the club. First signal 1300.

If you let me know you are coming, I can arrange a bed for you. In a camper, on a boat, at a house, anything other than a tent. Nice places to sleep all for free. With your registration, I give you $20 of raffle tickets for supporting the Force 5 fleet.

Fun happens before the regatta, For those who show up, we have a camper painting contest, How much can you make it look like a log cabin? I'm doing well so far. Then we have a day of shooting clays at the DNR range (free), a day of sailing and touring the lake. World class Sushi dinner hosted at Nami, just across the lake from the club. Seriously best sushi I've ever had and I really like sushi. So much fun, so little time. I'm arriving 10/5 and not leaving until 10/14. Come down and enjoy the fun. Register early and often.

Cheers,
Brian Hampton

Man, wish I could come.  Lots of Y-Flyer stuff going on then.
Next year, have the regatta on Oct 19-20.  I'll tell Atlanta to have theirs the previous weekend.  I'll make 'em an offer they can't refuse.   cool  big_smile

Re: 2018 Hospice Lake Hartwell South Carolina

Brian, always a highlight of the sailing season -
But my work company changed the annual meeting this year and I don't have enough time to get down without rushing and being exhausted.
I will miss not adding to my memories!  Great Race and memories to one and all that can make it.
Mark Esch-Williams, it saddens me that you are selling your F5 - but like me maybe not? Hope to once again race with you again at Hospice.
Wising one and all great weather for the event

Re: 2018 Hospice Lake Hartwell South Carolina

If anyone is coming, please register by Friday. At this point we don't have a fleet. perhaps next year we will return Force 5s to WCSC? Just an odd year. We are missing folks in other fleets too.

Cheers,
Brian

Re: 2018 Hospice Lake Hartwell South Carolina

Hello Rob,

Yep, it's with mixed feelings that I'm selling my boat.  I simply haven't sailed it in over 1.5 years.

I just had my last sail on my boat and was 5th place after 3 thistles and a Raider.   On corrected time, I was only 18 seconds behind the 4th place Thistle.  :-)

Iris and I have great memories of talking with you and your wife.

We plan to attend the Hospice Regattas so maybe we'll see you next year...

Cheers,
Mark

Re: 2018 Hospice Lake Hartwell South Carolina

Brian, you mention odd year...
Weather is showing a tropical storm coming up the Gulf that may be hitting your area on Thursday.
I imagine the lake is already high?
Best wishes

Actually, I'll be there but I'm crewing on a Holder 20.  :-)

Re: 2018 Hospice Lake Hartwell South Carolina

Guys, fill us in when you can.  I'm wondering how high the water is and what the winds ended up doing.  Hopefully the turn out increased.

Re: 2018 Hospice Lake Hartwell South Carolina

hopefully many of you saw the Facebook video of Thursday sailing post hurricane. beautiful conditions. 80f and winds gusting into the 30s. My ride was a Hunter 25.5 and I still almost spilled a beer.

No force 5s this year. Took to the distance course crewing on the Hunter with Hugh Vantleven. Mark E-W crewed on a Holder. Ben Gibson was on the Cal 9.2, Paul Harder on Lucky Lindy, Patrick Hopp on a C&C 29,  Ronnie Ashmore on a Bucc 18 and Eric Seymour on a Flying Scot. All Force 5 owners just not anyone on a Force 5. Ben, Patrick and Hugh go 1 2 3 and E Fleet on the Distance course. Mark gets 1st in C fleet (I think that was the right fleet) distance.

Saturday was the drift of all drifts. We took 2 hours to make the shortened course 1.4 miles away. Sunday, the races was in cool but breeze filled conditions. We saw some sustained 12mph or so stuff and no drifting at all but no sunshine either. 0900 makes for an early gun but bagels on the water are a nice breakfast.

350 people attended. $76K was raise for Hospice of the Upstate to help indigent folks in need of Hospice care.

Hope to see a few more Force 5 people next year. Let me know if y'all would prefer sailing bigger boats on the distance course. We can do that too. Just come down and have fun. This year we had people staying at The Lodge, The Travel Lodge and the Hampton Inne. Nice to host so many people.

Cheers,
Brian

Thanks Brian and congrats on another record year for Hospice!

I can't seem to connect with the video - can you attach the URL for it?
