I have been asked by a few people on the setup I use to roll my sail. The setup I use keep the sail in great shape. It does require the battons be removed.

The tube is a 10 foot piece of 3 inch PVC drain pipe. It is a thin wall which makes it very light weight. I have a hole drilled on each end and a bungee with a ball on the end. The bungee goes through the grommet at each end of the foot then back over the ball. I also use one more at the head of the sail to keep it rolled up. This also allows the sail to be rolled up by one person in any wind.

Also, thanks to my wife for making me a nylon sleeve to cover the sail once it is rolled up.

I much prefer to leave the battens in. I guess if you aren't going to sail that much, long storage would dictate a better roll. But, if you are getting that sail out often (as you should) I think rolling with the battens in and around a tube would be ideal. Have you tried a different tube to roll with the battens in?
